The session is called making through words. It involves a story telling aspect that makes participants reflect on their own relationship with built infrastructure. It starts with descriptions and readings relating to famous buildings mostly of a historical context. These are then shown in images and videos. The audience discuss the relationship between the descriptions they have heard and what they have seen to explore the subjectiveness of interpretation. The participants then write a description of a space they feel they understand and can communicate. This is handed to the person next to them who then try’s to draw their interpretation of it. We then as a group discuss the results the primal idea of the exercise is that space making is fundamentally a communicative act that relies heavily on the linguistic and narrative abilities of those involved. For the Junior program instalment of the workshop there will be a focus on story telling and drawing with an aim of creating a fun and inclusive event that allows younger participants to enjoy themselves while learning about representation, expression and communication in a world of made things.
