Not forgetting its more recent history as fabled battleground from our decades of revolution – just commemorated with a bridge.
Today’s vista is of an urban wasteland transformed but endlessly unfinished. Home to Ireland’s only city residential marina. Architecturally bordered all round – from altitude with attitude to boomtime banality and masterful mediocrity?
And all overlaying this engineering masterpiece – impressive even today for its complexities, for its scale and ambition.
