Learn about these Drumcondra landmarks, whose rich histories include varied uses in the treatment of infectious diseases and ocular health across different eras and significant events in the lives of well known architects and statesmen of 19th century Ireland.

Today home to NCBI, Ireland’s national sight agency, tours of Drumcondra Hospital will be led by people who are blind or vision impaired. Tours will showcase some of the better preserved features of these sites as well as accommodations to improve access and use of historic buildings and emerging Assistive Technologies.

Accessibility Information

Universal Access: As the main entrance of Drumcondra Hospital is located at upper ground level, this building may be accessed either via ramp (approx. 10 metres) or short external stairs (4 no. steps with handrails). The site is generally level. Accessible features include visual colour contrast to steps, handrails and kerbs, tactile paving, large format tactile and braille signs and Assistive Technologies including NaviLens.
Public Transport Accessibility: Tour attendees are encouraged to avail of accessible and sustainable modes of transport wherever possible. The site is within 100 metres of Dublin Bus services on routes 40, 40B and 40D. Rail transport is available within 600 metres at Drumcondra Station (DART and Irish Rail services). The nearest Dublinbikes docking stations are at Upper Dorset Street and Eccles Street. Limited parking is available on site, at the vehicle owner’s own liability.
