As part of the Open House Dublin programme Louise Cotter from Carr, Cotter & Naessens Architects will give an architectural tour of the LexIcon. In 2007 a competition was held for the new Library and Cultural Centre in Dún Laoghaire. Over 100 entries were received and the contract was won by Cork-based Carr, Cotter & Naessens. In July 2012, building began and it was completed by September 2014. It covers 6,327m2 and houses a theatre, municipal gallery, a Lab space, meeting rooms, computers for public use and 150 study and homework spaces. Averaging well over half a million visitors per year, it was recently voted Fáilte Ireland’s 5th most popular free visitor attraction nationally. dlr LexIcon has won numerous awards since it opened including RIBA Award for International Excellence Award 2016, AAI Award 2016, RIAI Best Public Building 2015 and RIAI Best Cultural Building 2015.
