The project is divided into three separate blocks, each contributing to the overall campus environment. The Sports Building augments the existing sports facilities, completing the entrance courtyard, addressing the formal entrance gates of the College, and in the expression of structure, texture and colour, continues the architectural language of early buildings in a reinterpreted manner. The Lecture Theatre Block sits as a solid form, (having become known as Ayers Rock), the scale and use of green roof lower the scale to reflect the residential community at the north edge of the campus. The Main Library building sought to break the ‘high enclosing wall’ perception of the Campus by engaging dramatically with Drumcondra Road with a new ‘window to the city’ formed in a cantilever structure. The project reconnected a historic tree lined walkway to provide a new pedestrian linkage between the College and Drumcondra. This tour led by Architect Eamon McCarney will take place in DCU St Patrick's Campus. This is an outdoor tour and won't access the inside of the buildings.
