Discover Dublin’s Custom House, the eighteenth century architectural masterpiece that stands sentinel over the River Liffey.
The Custom House was designed by English architect, James Gandon. Building commenced in 1781 and it took 10 years to build.
The tour will encompass over 200 years of Irish History, from the Act of Union to the War of Independence. The exhibition explores the building, burning, and restoration of the Custom House.
Our expert guides will delve into the stories attached to this iconic building, delving into the history, its architecture, and the people who worked here.
The Custom House Visitor Centre is a multi-sensory experience, with audio benches, visual displays, and interactive screens to enhance the visitor experience; as well as our stonemasons’ trail for children.
The exhibition can be viewed through a self-guided visit, or with a guided tour, and is one hour in duration.
Pre-booking is required.
Accessibility Information
Toilets are on the ground floor of the exhibition, with a lift to get access to the upper level of the Visitor Centre.
There are audio guides available in various languages, and the videos playing in the exhibition have open captions.
Lights can be dimmed and audio/visual displays can be turned down if required.
There are 6-7 steps leading up to the entrance of the building – if wheelchair access is required please note it in your email when looking for tickets for Open House.
