Back to the Street: Dublin’s Social Housing in the 1970s

In this recorded online talk Dr Ellen Rowley (Architectural Historian, School of Architecture, Planning and Environmental Policy, UCD) discusses housing in Dublin during the 1970s and the shift away from flat blocks towards a new low-rise high-density house type that acknowledges the importance of the streetscape and context. Ellen focuses on three main projects: Darndale estate in Dublin 17, Ash Grove on The Coombe, and the winning scheme of the 1975 Housing Competition organised by Dublin Corporation, City Quay, in Dublin 2. These sites will feature in More Than Concrete Blocks Vol. III out in 2022.
