Tour Information +
As part of Open House Dublin, we are offering a quiet hour at the Book of Kells Experience on Saturday, 19th October from 10am-11am. This is suitable for people who need a calmer atmosphere to enjoy their visit, for example those who are neurodivergent or have sensory processing differences. Numbers are limited to 30 people. There will be a guided tour for up to 15 people at 10am and this will be repeated at 10.30am.
The guided tour will take place in the Old Library building, which was the main library of Trinity College until the 1960’s and is home to the world renowned Book of Kells. This imposing building is the masterpiece of Thomas Burgh (1670-1730), chief engineer and surveyor-general of Ireland. The jewel in the Old Library’s crown is undoubtedly the Long Room, regarded by many as Ireland’s most beautiful interior.
The tour will begin in the Book of Kells Exhibition on the ground floor of the building. It will move to the Treasury, where the Book of Kells is on display and will then proceed up to the Long Room on the first floor of the building. After the 30-40 minute guided tour, visitors are welcome to continue on to the Red Pavilion which is our new digital immersive experience.
Book-in only
