Sunday 15 October
A Walking Tour of The Metals led by a group of UCD Architecture Graduates which will culminate at an exhibition of their thesis work in the Lexicon. The exhibition displays work made by final-year architecture students from the UCD School of Architecture. The students have generated a series of design projects which are connected by the route of The Metals. These range from artists’ studios to a local recycling centre on the fringes of the railway line, a Camphill Community garden scheme and a co-housing project on sites in the gardens of existing houses backing on to The Metals, a project for modular emergency housing on the edge of Dalkey Quarry, and two projects on the harbour, a proposal for a public space on Carlisle Pier and a new harbourmaster’s office beside the Irish Lights. Aspects of these seven diverse and speculative proposals may be viewed during the month of September. The walking route will begin at the Quarry and end at the Harbour with a visit to the Metals Exhibition at Lexicon Library. Please wear appropriate footwear and dress for the weather.
