The development consists of 49 generous, high-quality, affordable family homes of two- and three-storeys arranged in 6 terraces with front door access and private gardens for all units and a good social mix throughout. The design achieves the ongoing objectives set out in the Ballymun Sustainability Strategy which seeks the “promotion of alternative social landlords such as voluntary housing associations and co-operatives” The street elevation of each unit has been carefully considered to reduce monotony whilst maintaining a repetitive rhythm that can still have individual identity. A recessed entrance porch incorporating a planter and a projecting window over, form a recognisable repetitive feature differentiated by the coloured front doors. The housing proposal incorporates sustainable measures with a target A2 BER rating. Passive house standards to be applied include air tightness and solar panels incorporated into the pitched roofs with permeable driveway paving and brown water butts to the rear of each house.
