The principal North and South elevations expressed the barrel vault roof structure and the closed ends of the vault were finished with rough plaster contrasting with smooth plaster bands designed by Patrick Scott, the highly regarded and well known artist who worked as an assistant architect with Michael Scott on the project. The Danish mechanical and electrical engineer Jorgen Varming was appointed to design the services and also started an office in Dublin to undertake the commissions.
