In the centre of County Hall a reimagined space has been created with the insertion of a new floor into the existing structure to create a new Civic Hub and Council Chamber. These spaces are for public use and are designed to be a fully accessible. The 21st Century design is reinforced by Interactive screens and IT accessible locations. The ground floor retains the original walkway around the central area. The centre of this space now contains the Civic Hub with public waiting areas including meeting Pods. A new glazed lift provides access to the new Chamber and first floor mezzanine level and to the top floor of the Old Town Hall. At the mezzanine level, behind a glazed balcony, there is a spill out space which gives access to the new Chamber. There is a curved copper faced wall, which is an external representation of the interior of the chamber. Two of the three original curved roof sections form the new curved roof of the Chamber and the metal ceiling has been insulated and finished in acoustic panels with timber slips in the Chamber.
