Timber in the City : 4 projects - The use of timber in our cities is growing; globally timber is moving back to the centre in terms of structural materials simply because we can grow it and it looks great. Through 4 projects we show how timber can be used: as a complete building structure with massive timber columns, beams, and floor slabs, clad with timber facades (Ballyogan Operations and Maintenance Depot); as a hybrid system of massive timber columns and beams with concrete floor slabs and cores, clad with timber facades (Samuel Beckett Civic Campus); and as a structural facade system as beams, columns, and trusses (Elm Park and the Leinster House Welcoming Pavilion). The Ballyogan Operations and Maintenance Depot provides an integrated facility for Council services in the field of maintenance and environmental services. The Operations Depot is a passively designed, low energy, naturally ventilated building that maximizes passive energy sources.
First-come basis: Just turn up and look out for Open House Dublin volunteers. Access to this building will only be granted through tours starting at the Samuel Beckett Civic Centre.
