Located adjacent to a public green space and situated at a bend in the River Liffey below the Phoenix Park a 1960’s semi-detached house has been renovated and extended to capture surrounding views. The reoriented staircase and newly constructed gable afford framed views of the established mature tree canopies as you circulate throughout the building. The extrusion of the existing form creates a second public façade addressing the river and park. The new and old structures are mediated through the use of a palette of materials, colours and detailing which serve to blur the boundaries between each and turn the corner from roadside to riverside. To the rear a partially south facing cranked façade forms an external terrace with access from both the living and kitchen areas which is addressed by a cantilevered brick and metal canopy.
