Open House Dublin & Peter McVerry Trust

The IAF are delighted to continue our partnership with Peter McVerry Trust, the homeless and housing charity, for Open House Dublin 2017. Almost 7,000 people are currently experiencing homelessness in Ireland; with the numbers of people becoming homeless continuing to increase month on month.

There are, in parallel, thousands of empty homes, derelict sites and underused spaces across Ireland. Peter McVerry Trust have advocated for action on this issue of vacant properties since 2014, believing it can play a key role in improving housing availability, housing affordability, and reducing and ultimately eliminating homelessness.

To date, Peter McVerry Trust have brought over 50 units of accommodation back into use.  The charity has placed over 200 individuals in homes of their own, and are placing a continued focus on bringing empty and unused accommodation back into use, to deliver homes and other forms of accommodation needed in Ireland today.

During 2016, Peter McVerry Trust also provided 12,500 home support visits to people in own homes. These visits are crucial to helping people integrate into their communities and remain in their homes for the long term.
