Temple Bar Gallery + Studios (TBG+S) is an artists’ community in the heart of Dublin city centre. Founded in 1983, the building houses 30 artists’ studios in which professional visual artists make their work and a contemporary gallery which exhibits Irish and International artists. In 1994, as part of redevelopment of Temple Bar as a Cultural Quarter, McCullough Mulvin Architects re-designed and built a new addition – where the studios and gallery are now housed. Formally a shirt factory, the industrial nature of the building was aligned to provide high quality individual studio spaces on the 3 floors of the building, and a white cube gallery, at street front level. The building faces the River Liffey on its north façade and looks onto Temple Bar Square, facing south. A defining feature of the building’s architecture is the Atrium that rises the full height at the core of the building – with its oval void and concrete stairwell.
