An existing two storey terraced house, part of Dublin Corporation’s 1930s Crumlin housing scheme, was extended to provide a kitchen, dining and living area. A new roof spanning the extension folds down to form a courtyard in between the living spaces, with daylight to the courtyard maximised by angling the roof. To the rear, a sheltered external terrace is oriented toward the evening sun. The extension features an exposed timber-framed structure sitting on a concrete base, insulated externally and clad in black roofing felt. A smart, contemporary addition to a common Dublin housing type. It won Best House Extension Award in the 2013 Irish Architecture Awards.
