To mark the 185th anniversary of the establishment of the Office of Public Works this exhibition will illustrate the breadth of public works carried out by the OPW over the 185 years. This includes the design, construction, maintenance and management of piers, harbours, roads, coast guard stations, schools, barracks, garda stations, housing, asylums, office accommodation, bridges, canals, courthouses, mines, quarries, prisons, railways, drainage, sewerage and waterworks, post offices; the provision of furniture and artworks, conserving and presenting heritage sites, maintaining war graves, providing flood risk management and provision of visitor facilities. The artefacts that reflect this comprehensive workload will be included in the exhibition.
