The defensive strategy for Dublin was one of a necklace of Barracks from Howth to the Pigeon House Fort. Marlborough Barracks (McKee) as the cavalry base is the jewel in this defensive necklace. The south-facing North Accommodation Block provided the ideal platform from which to review the parade ground and cavalry. The building is a highly crafted composition of different brick forms; extruded brick, hand crafted, red rubber, ornate scrolls with insert terracotta panels. The conservation work has been light touch; undoing, cement pointing, and replacing terracotta or brick when structurally necessary or where all detail was lost.
