GPO Witness History is an immersive and interactive visitor centre in one of Dublin’s most iconic buildings, the GPO. It opened to the public for the centenary of the 1916 Rising in March. The project involved the creation of an exhibition centre within the restored courtyard of the GPO. The public now can engage with the iconic GPO and its relevance in Irish modern history via a brand new permanent exhibition. The space is divided in 3 different levels connected by staircases and specially designed lifts. The public enter at ground level through the GPO to gain access to the Admissions Area. The core area of the exhibition has been built underground to create maximum effect and an immersive ambiance. Visitors are treated to a special tour provided by the architects, Kavanagh Tuite Architects.
