The architects took into account the architecture of the 1930s house as a unit, the terrace of which forms a part of the street as a whole, which determined that the original design should be restored with the extension complementing the existing structure. The alterations are constructed in brick and a large opening on the western side of the rear extension steps above ceiling level to maximise its orientation. A rooflight, tight to the eastern gable, washes a painted brick wall with sunlight channelled between the shadows of the exposed joists.
